The stunning Roselend Valley – Fabulous Outdoors

Located between Albertville and Bourg Saint Maurice, the Roselend Valley is a paradise for the lovers of the outdoors. The roads are nice and winding and they’re surrounded by fields of natural flowers, waterfalls and flowing streams of water.

In the middle of the valley sits the water dam with the stunning mountain peak overlooking at it. Whether you love mountain walking, hiking, road cycling or mountain biking or just lover of traveling through breathtaking landscapes, this is one place not to be missed.

This was captured in the Alps of France at the stunning Cormet de Roselend, with it’s water dam, waterfalls and breathtaking landscape.
Marmots are popular in the Alps and at this time of the year they are really nice and fluffy after the winter season.

WHERE TO STAY:

There aren’t many places to stay up in the valley, but just below getting to the top, there are a few villages that have accommodation available, one of which is Areches Beaufort. Once at the top however, overlooking the dam, is the Chalet de Roselend , a warm and welcoming family run hotel, situated with the most breathtaking views.      The Chalet de Roselend provides a very comfortable stay with breathtaking window and balcony views that make you really feel part of the stunning natural environment. The family owners and staff are very friendly and you feel like you’re at home immediately. The food is very tasty, with a set menu of local specialities and products from the region.

(Wikipedia: “The Roselend Dam is an arch-buttress dam located 5 km (3 mi) east of Beaufort in the Savoie department of the Rhône-Alpes region in south-eastern France. It is located just west and below the Cormet de Roselend mountain pass. The dam was designed by Coyne et Bellier and construction began in 1955. The reservoir began to fill in 1960, the power station was operational in 1961 and the dam complete in 1962. It was constructed for the primary purpose of hydroelectric power generation and supports the 546 MW La Bâthie Power Station.“)

It’s Spring your favourite season to shoot landscapes? Fabulous Outdoors

It’s been a very temperamental winter over the European Alps, lots of snow has fallen, followed by rapid temperature change. Suddenly Spring arrives with it’s beautiful clear skies, white clouds blown by the wind over the mountains, stunning sunrises and sunsets to be photographed.
It’s definitely my favourite season to shoot landscapes, but I also love Spring for the awakening of nature. Birds happily singing and busy flying to feed their little ones calling for food from their nest and other animals running around with their new borns. Sunrises and sunsets are pretty good to be captured all year round indeed, but in the Alps or in their proximity, you can still get the snow on the peaks in contrast with the green landscape at a lower altitude. At the same time, you don’t have to freeze yourself as you do in wintertime going up before the sunrise to set your gear for the shoot.

For this particular shoot, we were out for one of my photo-walks around the lakes as the sun was about to set creating these beautiful reflections in the water.

Fresh snow on the mountain peaks time lapse Fabulous Outdoors Photography & filmmaking tutorials

A 1 minute time lapse with the wind blowing clouds and snow over the mountains Fresh snow on the mountain peaks by Fabulous Outdoors @fabulousport

Music Credits: “Fresh Fallen Snow” by Chris Haugen
Film recorded with Canon 6D
Canon 70-200mm f/4 lens
Manfrotto Tripod
Filmed in 1080p HD at 25fps then speeded up in post production, which is the simpler way to film and to record a time lapse video.
Time lapse is amongst the coolest filmmaking techniques, speeding up things that we are used to see going slow, giving a visually interesting and pleasant viewing experience. Adding a nice relaxing music and atmospheric sounds implements the power of the video footage.

Snow on the mountain peaks
Another way to create a time lapse video, for better quality and definition, is to capture multiple images a few seconds apart, then upload them all to the computer and adjust all the exposures and settings. After all that’s done, upload the images in windows movie maker, adobe premiere pro or other filmaking programs, and play them at the desired speed.

Although Dji Global came out with a new drone called Mavic Air, the Dji Mavic Pro is still a great product to buy in 2018.
We’ve compared the specifications of both, the Mavic PRO and the Mavic Air, and for the use that we intend to do, the Mavic PRO just seem to be more appropriate. It’s built and feels very solid, the foldable propellors are great for travelling and are less likely to break in small impacts, and the price has dropped since the newer Mavic AIR came on the market.

It’s recommended to get the bundle deal with two extra batteries, the multiple chargers and the nice bag that goes with it.
However if you want just to get the drone Mavic PRO, it’s at a great discouted price on here:

IF you’re more interested in the Dji MAVIC AIR, as it’s a newer version or because the specifications are more suitable to your needs, then you can check out the latest deals on the Dji Global website by clicking here: Dji MAVIC AIR

We’ll be making more videos on this channel Fabulous Sport Outdoors about how to fly a drone, video tutorials, filming tips and tricks to help everyone interested in these fabulous devices, and in photography / filmmaking.

P.S.: I’m an ambassador affiliate with Dji Global, by using these links, nothing will affect your purchase, but I will earn a small commission from the company, and that’ll be much appreciated as it helps to cover part of the cost and the time of making these video tests and reviews. Mant thanks.

Winter Wonderland Photography Walk – Fabulous Outdoors

It’s a very cold winter in the alps, lots of snow and temperatures of -15C / -20C and more. As a lover of the outdoors and a photographer, these are great conditions for capturing beautiful natural landscapes with the fresh snow making it a real winter wonderland. In this video, I went for a walk in the beautiful Champagny Le Haut in France, which is part of the Parc National de la Vanoise.

Here’s a video of the photo walk in this beautiful location: https://youtu.be/DecTDeUgWaY

It’s a great place to visit and to be surrounded by nature and to enjoy the beautiful outdoors and all the fabulous outdoor activities possible in this location.

I’ve been using canon cameras and equipment, plus a wide angle lens from Tokina.
For better audio capture I’ve mounted the external microphone video-mic pro which it performs much better than the inbuilt one.

Visiting Lake Garda Malcesine Monte Baldo – Fabulous Outdoors

Lake Garda, is approximately 40 Kilometres in length, and is the largest lake in Italy.

It is a popular holiday location located in northern Italy, about halfway between Brescia and Verona, and between Venice and Milan on the edge of the Dolomites. Glaciers formed this alpine region at the end of the last Ice Age. The lake and its shoreline are divided between the provinces of Verona (to the south-east), Brescia (south-west), and Trentino (north).

The name Garda, which the lake has been seen referred to in documents dating to the eighth century, comes from the town of the same name. It is the evolution of the Germanic word warda, meaning “place of guard” or “place of observation.”

A view from Monte Baldo by the Baita dei Forti refuge

The lake surrounded by mountains overlooking it, is ideal for most outdoor activities and it’s a dreamland for landscape photographers. The views are stunning and the constant breeze keeps the sky either very clear or very interesting.

A gloomy day in Malcesine

Some of the most popular outdoor sports activities here are sailing, windsurfing/kitesurfing, due to the thermal wind effect blowing regularly south in the morning, then switching directions in the afternoon, blowing back towards the north. Together with cycling, mountain biking, paragliding, rock climbing, the options are endless for outdoor sports enthusiasts.

If you require more information about Lake Garda, don’t hesitate to get in touch. Thank you for passing by and for reading this post, and remember to Get Out More as it’s..

A visit to Skyway Monte Bianco ..a cablecar to the sky – Fabulous Outdoors

Skyway Monte Bianco is a cablecar in the Alps, linking the Italian town of Courmayeur with Pointe Helbronner on the southern side of the Mont Blanc massif. Taking over three years to construct, it opened in 2015 at a cost of 110 million euros, and is considered to be the world’s most expensive cablecar installation.

From the cablecar base station at Entrèves (at an altitude of 1,300 meters above sea level), the Skyway Monte Bianco rises to a mid-way station at Pavillon Du Mont-Frety at an altitude of 2,173 meters.

It takes six minutes to reach this point, during which time the 80-person cabin make one complete rotation, giving visitors all-round views into the Aosta valley and along both Val Veny and Val Ferret, as well as improved access to the Italian side of the Mont Blanc massif and a link via the Vallée Blanche Aerial Tramway to the Aiguille du Midi, from where a separate cable car descends to the town of Chamonix in France.

The half-way station of the Pavillon contains a restaurant and conference centre, plus one of the highest botanical gardens in the region, containing some 900 alpine plant species, as well as access to a network of trails. Visitors can continue upwards via a second cable car which also slowly revolves, and takes ten minutes to reach Punta Helbronner (known as the Eagles Nest) at an altitude of 3,466 meters.

Tourist facilities and scenic viewpoints provide close views of Mont Blanc, Aiguille d’Entreves and the Vallee Blanche, but also views further out towards the Matterhorn, Monte Rosa and Gran Paradiso. A tunnel and lift system provide access from the cable car terminus to the Torino Hut, a high-altitude mountain refuge offering accommodation both to tourists and to climbers intending to access the mountaineering routes of the range.

(Content Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skyway_Monte_Bianco )

The cablecar runs from 7:30/8:30am to 16:30/17:30 in the afternoon, check on the Funivie del Monte Bianco website http://www.montebianco.com/it/orari.html  On this occasion we’ve been lucky enough to be able to admire a beautiful sunset just before having to make our way back down.
