Criterium du Dauphiné 2019 Pro Cycling Tour

The Criterium du Dauphiné (CDD) is a great cycling event that is usually held in the month of June in the beautiful region of France, which is the territory in the South -east of the country, that includes the departments of Isère, Drôme, and Hautes-Alpes.

This cycling race is a great opportunity for the professional cyclists and teams to get an idea about where they stand with their preparation compared to their rivals, at only three weeks away from the more important ” Tour de France” (TdF). Most of the CDD stages are ridden on the same roads of the TdF, therefore is also a great opportunity to inspect the terrain on which they’ll be competing again in three weeks time.

Been mainly an alpine region, the Dauphiné presents stunning landscapes and beathtaking sceneries with beautiful mountains always in the background. The race itself is therefore usually more suitable for a climber type of cyclist, however usually a couple of flatter stages and a Time Trial day can help an overall rider with a strong team to aim for victory.

This 2019 edition has been won by Jakob Fuglsang of Team Astana ahead of Tejay Van Garderen of Team EF Education First, and Emanuel Buchmann of Team Bora – Hansgrohe. Adam Yates of Team Mitchelton-Scott was in the lead of the race up until stage 7, then unfortunately had to retire from the competition due to a stomach problem.

Julian Alaphilippe of Team Deceuninck-Quickstep came to this CDD without expectation he said, but been the amazing talent he is, he’s won a stage and finished in Champéry with the climber’s Polka Dot jersey on his shoulders. Wout Van Aert has won the Green Jersey for the points classification, and BJORG LAMBRECHT is the winner of the White Jersey, for the young rider’s classification. Amongst all the great riders in this year’s Criterium du Dauphiné, there was Chris Froome of Team Ineos that unfortunately had to pull out pretty soon due to an accident that unfortunately seem to keep him out from competing also in the TdF. Let’s hope he’ll be able to get back as soon as possible and so, we wish hil all the best for a speedy recovery.

Nairo Quintana of  Team Movistar, Dan Martin of Team UAE Emirates and Romain Bardet of Team Ag2r were also in the group but probably mainly just in preparation for the TdF. Anyway, this CDD has clearly given an indication of the conditions of riders and teams leading to the TdF 2019, of course this is only a week-long event, whether the “Grande Boucle” is a much heavier 3 WEEKS of challenging long stages where anything can happen.

A visit to the Museo del Ciclismo Madonna del Ghisallo Cycling Museum by @fabulousport

A visit to the Museo del Ghisallo Cycling Museum @MuseoGhisallo http://www.museodelghisallo.it

Located in Magreglio overlooking Lake Como, by the Madonna del Ghisallo chapel contains an exposition of vintage bicycles and cycling memorabilia, many trophies and cycling photography history.

Beside the church there is the cycling museum “Museo del Ciclismo del Ghisallo”.

Very recommended a visit if you love cycling history and it’s also a great area to discover for cycletouring if you are a keen cyclist.

Just passed the church, the road descends for a few kilometres towards Erba, then with a right turn at a roundabout, you will discover the Sormano climb with also the steepest climb variation called the “Muro di Sormano” a 1800 metres climb with a 12% to 27% gradient!

If you need more information about this region don’t hesitate to write me in the comment section below this video on the Youtube channel: “Fabulous Sport Outdoor Photography”

Selle Italia Slr Superflow Bike Saddle Test @fabulousport

After experiencing a lot of pain using a bike saddle that wasn’t good for me, the Selle Italia Monolink, I’ve decided to test another model but still giving a chance to Selle Italia as a brand. This new one to test is the Selle Italia SLR Superflow and it’s shaped with a major cut-out to allow ventilation as you ride. From Selle Italia’ website: “SLR Superflow L. The optimal sitting position on the toughest saddle
The sophistication and strength of the SLR range are combined with the benefits of SuperFlow technology to maximise your riding experience with an optimal saddle position.”
I haven’t used it for too long, but I can already say that it’s a much better design and comfortable saddle to ride, particarly at the moment, been summer and at 30*C the ventilation really helps.

Warren Barguil (Fortuneo-Samsic) was the first attacker at km 6 but he didn’t stay away more than two kilometres as the peloton reacted. Team Sky denied any attacker the possibility to ride away from the peloton before the ascent to the Cormet de Roselend. Julian Alaphilippe (Quick Step) was the first to take off in the climb. After he got caught, he managed to react to a later attack by Dani Navarro (Cofidis). Paola is about to cycle all the Italian Stages of the Giro d’Italia 2018, one day ahead of the official race, to spread road cycling safety awareness all around Italy. See more images here on my FLICKR. She also ride this Giro to remember Alfonsina Strada(16 March 1891 – 13 September 1959) who was an Italian cyclist, and the only woman to have ridden one of cycling’s three major stage races. She started in the Giro d’Italia in 1924 when the organisers mistook her for a man. Newspapers called her The Devil in a dress.[1]  Her racing career included an Italian record which lasted 26 years. She died aged 69 as she propped up her motorcycle after riding to a bicycle race.

I, Fabrizio Malisan @fabulouSport  will be part of her team, where we’ll follow and support Paola Gianotti in her Italian Giro 2018 adventure. Please subscribe to this blog where I’ll give you regular updates on Paola’s progress or press LIKE ON:

White Water Canoe Slalom Italian Championship U23 Ivrea 2018

Whitewater canoeing is the sport of paddling a canoe on a moving body of water, typically a whitewater river. Whitewater canoeing can range from simple, carefree gently moving water, to demanding, dangerous whitewater. River rapids are graded like ski runs according to the difficulty, danger or severity of the rapid. Whitewater grades (or classes) range from I or 1 (the easiest) to VI or 6 (the most difficult/dangerous). Grade/Class I can be described as slightly moving water with ripples. Grade/Class VI can be described as severe or almost unrunnable whitewater, such as Niagara Falls.

At the request of the Ivrea Canoe and Kayak Club, Hydrostadium accepted an expertise mission in the beginning of 2007. The aim of this expertise was the optimization of the last third of the course with a view to the organization of the World Cup Sprinting in June 2007.
