Cycling Tour Vlog: Rosazza Valle Cervo to Oropa Sanctuary Biella Piedmont Italy @fabulousport

The Biellese region is a fabulous land for cycling, offering several quiet roads to ride. Cycling is a great way to explore and discover these beautiful landscapes of the northern Piedmont region of Italy.
In this video I’m showing you a great climb, with quite a challenging gradient, reaching about 15%, but very rewarding and panoramic.

The climb begins once passed Biella, a lovely ride up through the Valle Cervo which is a valley that feels like time has stood still. The ride is very pleasant surrounded by very beautiful characteristic houses and picturesque villages along the river. Just before you get to the town of Rosazza, there’s a left turn on a bridge, then left again towards San Giovanni and Galleria di Rosazza, the tunnel that leads to Oropa on the other side of the mountain. However, whilst you are there, I recommend you cycle all the way to the end of the Cervo Valley, to visit Rosazza and Piedicavallo, both really interesting little villages.

It’s always more exciting to cycle up a hill from one side and descend the other side, as it really feels like travelling further.

The Sanctuary of Oropa has hosted a few Giro d’Italia stage finishes. It’s a great road to climb from the town of Biella, winding it’s way up to the Sanctuary.

CYCLING in NO MATTER WHAT – @fabulousport

Cycling no matter what.. regardless of the weather, the rain and the cold.
The “problem” of cycling is that it’s quite addictive.. the more you do it, the more you feel like doing it.. so even if you are a fair weather rider like myself, eventually the need to go out on your bike becomes stronger than the lazy part of yourself, trying to find any excuse to stay in and relax on the couch, in front of the TV.
I make these type of videos with the aim to encourage people to get out more, to go outdoors and enjoy outdoor activities. If you are a fan of football, rugby or a favourite tv program, you can always record it and watch it when you come back after your outdoor activity. I know it may not be the same as watching it live, but as long as you don’t hear about the score of the match..it’ll still be exciting to watch, or find the time to get outdoors before or after!!
My wife Emma, here in the video, never cycled before we met, so if anyone’s interested in this topic, I’ll produce a video explaining how I got her to this level of cycling, so that we can enjoy doing outdoor activities together as a couple. Some people maybe prefer keeping their own hobbies or sports for themselves, or maybe they’ve tried to teach their partners without success, so I’ll explain ang give a few tips in how to get your partner into cycling, learning from the beginning, first easy rides, up to a good level of skills and fitness that enables enjoying great days out on a bicycle.

Wahoo Elemnt Cycling GPS Computer Test Review

After numerous frustrating attempts to connect my old Garmin Edge to the Garmin Connect website, I was after a different bike computer that provided a similar amount of data and functions. I was then recommended to take a look at the Wahoo products, and here’s my first thoughts on the Elemnt computer bundle.

I’m not particularly a fan of the unboxing reviews, but this time I was pleasantly surprised on the packaging design and descriptions.

The package unfolds giving you a quick idea on all the functions and the different screen displays that you can then customise, but more about that later.

The box opens like a drawer where the device rests firmly inside a molded cover.

Once the cover is removed, you’ll find the “Quick Start Guide” booklet that basically tells you to download the App and to synchronise it with your smartphone.
In the bundle package, you’ll have the cadence sensor, the heart rate monitor belt, a speed sensor, different bike handlebars mounts, and the charging cable that I was very pleased to see is a commonly used micro-USB rather than a original different one that I’ll end up losing or forgetting at home when needed.

It’s interesting to see how nowadays there seems to be less informational booklets, but instead the manufacturers send you to either a website page, a video or a phone app like in this case.
Most of the settings, syncing and connecting has to be made via the mobile app, which is surprisingly easy and straight forward.

I like the fact that you can have as much or as little information on your screen. With a simple click on the button on the right, as shown in the photo above, you can zoom in or out, and by doing so the display shows more or less information to read as you cycle.
Another thing that attracted my curiosity in the Elemnt, is that it connects and it syncs with most devices, apps and training tools you might want to use either from now or eventually at a later time in the future such as Strava, RideWithGps,

I’ve chosen to start by reviewing the Elemnt prior to the newer Elemnt Bolt as it’s slightly bigger, so for navigation purposes as a tour guide, it’s an advantage over the smaller one. It comes with 3 different mounts, so it can be mounted on the handlebar stem or in front of it, whichever way suits your preference.

Anyway, it’s now time to go and test it on the road.

A Taste of Marche Region  #DestinazioneMarche

Mission accomplished for the brave cyclists who participated in the Bike Long Ride Marche – London.    A long ride of 2,100 km, from the beautiful Marche region of Italy all the way to London , passing through the heart of Europe.   From Piazza del Popolo in Ascoli Piceno to the UK , waving Milan goodbye and crossing over the Alps to overcome the Simplon Pass … and then, towards the great “Avenue Verte” connecting the centre of Paris to the City of London.

The cyclists of Marche Bike Life are ambassadors of the Marche region, promoting it’s beautiful landscapes, the delicious local food and everything that their beautiful region has to offer to the tourists.  Mauro Fumagalli of Marche Bike Life, creator of the event, aims to promote tourism and cycle tourism in le Marche, together with Antonella Rutigliano, who talks about disability and sport, sharing her experiences and results as a Paralympic athlete, aiming to  motivate other people with physical disability to do the same.

You’ll find Rosso di Sera Italian Restaurant in Monmouth Street London
We participated in this promotional event, hosted and beautifully prepared by Rosso di Sera Italian Restaurant on Monmouth Street in London, who provided a delicious array of culinary excellence and delights from the Marche region. The Italian atmosphere built throughout the evening with the amazing Opera singing, performed by Villa InCanto‘s artists.

This project was supported by the Marche Region and some of the most important public and private operators of the territory, that help to make it happen. I strongly recommend you to go for a meal at Rosso di Sera in London, and to check out Villa InCanto’s website for their upcoming events and to travel and visit the beautiful Marche region of Italy.

See the post on the Facebook Page: Bike Long Ride Marche – London

Cycling tour in the Dolomites

There are many beautiful places to go for a cycling tour, but you’d have to pick one only, I highly recommend you the Dolomites.

Cycling up the Passo Campolongo – Corvara Alta Badia

The scenery is simply stunning, with open valleys surrounded by rocky mountain peaks. A snake of tarmac to ride your bike on, always well maintained for the annual cycling event, the Maratona dles Dolomites.  We stay in Corvara Alta Badia, main centre of the event with easy access to all the surrounding roads to cycle on.

The beautiful Corvara in Alta Val Badia Dolomites

There are many mountain passes to choose from, going from a 3/4% gradient, up to 15% in places, perfect terrain to test your fitness and skills level.

Cycling Passo Fedaia Marmolada Dolomites

Our group is organised by La Fuga Travel cycling tour company, stays in the area for the whole week leading up to the Maratona event, to get used to the altitude, to familiarise  with the roads and to get ready for the big cycling day ahead.

Cycling to discover the British Countryside

The British Countryside from an Italian point of view.
I’ve been living in the UK for about ten years now, and as a lover of the outdoors, I love to explore the countryside to find new places full of character. As you cycle you take so much more in of your surroundings than if you are sat in a car. I particularly like the look of old houses and old pubs, their little windows and all the details that shows how well they’ve been looked after and cared for over hundreds of years.

This is the White Bear Pub in Warlingham Surrey, it’s a 16th century country pub located in between Croydon and Biggin Hill, along a quiet road I often cycle through.
