Visiting Lake Garda Malcesine Monte Baldo – Fabulous Outdoors

Lake Garda, is approximately 40 Kilometres in length, and is the largest lake in Italy.

It is a popular holiday location located in northern Italy, about halfway between Brescia and Verona, and between Venice and Milan on the edge of the Dolomites. Glaciers formed this alpine region at the end of the last Ice Age. The lake and its shoreline are divided between the provinces of Verona (to the south-east), Brescia (south-west), and Trentino (north).

The name Garda, which the lake has been seen referred to in documents dating to the eighth century, comes from the town of the same name. It is the evolution of the Germanic word warda, meaning “place of guard” or “place of observation.”

The lake surrounded by mountains overlooking it, is ideal for most outdoor activities and it’s a dreamland for landscape photographers. The views are stunning and the constant breeze keeps the sky either very clear or very interesting.

A gloomy day in Malcesine

Some of the most popular outdoor sports activities here are sailing, windsurfing/kitesurfing, due to the thermal wind effect blowing regularly south in the morning, then switching directions in the afternoon, blowing back towards the north. Together with cycling, mountain biking, paragliding, rock climbing, the options are endless for outdoor sports enthusiasts.

A cycling story by Fabulous Outdoors:
“We often get asked Why We Cycle?

Cycling Up Mountains at Sunset
I thought I’d never see myself on a bike..
but I gave it a try …and it’s so much more!
It’s a journey, a travel experience..and on every ride there’s a new one.
It’s what you see, and how you perceive it.. you are outdoors with nature
and you’re taking in all it’s magical beauty..
the expansive landscapes, the small towns and villages..
the smell of the trees as you cycle throgh woodlands and forests..
the stunning mountains, that seem so big and far away.. and yet so close.
It’s you and your bike, feeling part of nature..
feeling happy and alive.
Somehow it feels like all the senses of your body are awakening,
to be part of this wonderland, and you feel like there’s a big world out there
waiting for you, and your bike, to go out.. to discover it all..
and to enjoy!
LIFE.. It’s Fabulous Outdoors!

Evening comes in the fields of #Piemonte #Italy

Situated at the foot of the Alps, this area of Piemonte is a beautiful land of natural contrasts. Colourful agricultural fields, surrounded by lakes, hills and mountains in the background.

The temperamental Spring weather, with still occasional snow falls on the surrounding mountains, creates continuous temperature changes. This generates a thermal wind effect, leaving us to enjoy the beautiful clear sky.

Mountain walks in Italy

As the winter hasn’t really kicked off just yet, although it’s mid-December, it’s a great opportunity to go and explore the mountains in different ways.

..such as mountain walks. This particular walk shown in the photographs, is in the Aosta valley of Italy and it can be done in an afternoon. You could ski in Cervinia and Zermatt in the morning, then go for this walk afterwards.

The Valtournenche, valley of Cervinia, offers many different walks to do, from short and easy to longer and more challenging ones.

There are many good view points to have a sit down and a bite to eat and also picnic areas with wooden made benches and tables as in the photo here below.
