The stunning Roselend Valley – Fabulous Outdoors

Located between Albertville and Bourg Saint Maurice, the Roselend Valley is a paradise for the lovers of the outdoors. The roads are nice and winding and they’re surrounded by fields of natural flowers, waterfalls and flowing streams of water.

In the middle of the valley sits the water dam with the stunning mountain peak overlooking at it. Whether you love mountain walking, hiking, road cycling or mountain biking or just lover of traveling through breathtaking landscapes, this is one place not to be missed.

This was captured in the Alps of France at the stunning Cormet de Roselend, with it’s water dam, waterfalls and breathtaking landscape.
Marmots are popular in the Alps and at this time of the year they are really nice and fluffy after the winter season.

WHERE TO STAY:

There aren’t many places to stay up in the valley, but just below getting to the top, there are a few villages that have accommodation available, one of which is Areches Beaufort. Once at the top however, overlooking the dam, is the Chalet de Roselend , a warm and welcoming family run hotel, situated with the most breathtaking views.      The Chalet de Roselend provides a very comfortable stay with breathtaking window and balcony views that make you really feel part of the stunning natural environment. The family owners and staff are very friendly and you feel like you’re at home immediately. The food is very tasty, with a set menu of local specialities and products from the region.

(Wikipedia: “The Roselend Dam is an arch-buttress dam located 5 km (3 mi) east of Beaufort in the Savoie department of the Rhône-Alpes region in south-eastern France. It is located just west and below the Cormet de Roselend mountain pass. The dam was designed by Coyne et Bellier and construction began in 1955. The reservoir began to fill in 1960, the power station was operational in 1961 and the dam complete in 1962. It was constructed for the primary purpose of hydroelectric power generation and supports the 546 MW La Bâthie Power Station.“)

The sun sets on the “Sleeping Beauty”

We are in Piemonte Italy, north of Turin at the foot of the Alps. This region is called Canavese which is a beautiful landscape of lakes, hills and mountains that surrounds the town of Ivrea.

A beautiful Autumn for mountain walks in Piemonte, Italy

View from the top of Mombarone

It’s nearly mid-November and as usual this is a particularly warm week, in fact it’s called “Estate di San Martino” (San Martino’s summer). It’s the last heat wave prior to the upcoming winter. The weather is very mild during the daytime, although come the evening and overnight, the temperature drops to low single digits.

In this article I’m showing you a beautiful easy to medium difficulty walk of about 5hrs all together. We are in the Piemonte region, 45min north of Turin airport there’s the town of Ivrea from which you can see the Serra Morenica hill with the Mombarone peak at the top. This walks can be done from several starting points, although this one showed here it starts from San Giacomo above the village of Andrate.

Walking up Mombarone from La Cavanna

It’s an amazing walk full of scenery starting from woodlands that open up to a vaster, open panoramic space that overlooks the surrounding landscape below. On a day with clear, blue skies you can see as far as Turin and beyond, with all the surrounding mountain range and the highest peaks of the European Alps.

It’s a fantastic day out that doesn’t require a very high level of fitness and that I recommend to everyone. If you want to know more and need more information, don’t hesitate to contact: fabulouSport @ gmail com.

Capturing the magic #bluehour in the #mountains

05012015-IMG_1434_5_6_fused_FB-cropped-©fabulousSki

There’s a time in the day that is known to the the photographers as the “Blue Hour”. It’s basically the lenght of time in between the sunset and moonrise. One of the problems you might encounter in the mountains waiting for the blue hour, is that it gets very cold and you can freeze as that it’s one of the coldest moment of the day. However, if taking stunning pictures is what you like doing, the blue hour is the best time to achieve that result.
